SAFETY

NEED TO KNOW: SAFETY

The campus of Woods Church is a busy one! Accordingly, we have a handful of rules that we ask every parent or guardian to follow. This helps ensure the safety of our little ones.

  • Always sign your child in and out of the classroom. This is of vital importance, especially during an emergency.
  • Please do not ever allow your child to enter or exit the building, hallway, or playground without you. This is especially important for the security door at the entrance of the center.
  • Drive slowly in the parking lot. Since this is where children are picked up and dropped off, it is important to be extra cautious.

  • Monthly Fire Drills

We practice monthly fire drills where the children hear the alarm and we all evacuate the building. This is done in conjunction with the Director of Operations to ensure that all equipment is operating properly. No one is permitted to enter or exit the building during these drills. During drills, all teachers have a grab and go backpack with supplies and the office staff will carry all emergency contact numbers, medications, and evacuation bags.

  • Lockdown Drills and Shelter-In-Place Drills

We practice lockdown drills and shelter-in-place drills. Lockdown drills involve children remaining quietly in their classroom with the doors locked and curtains closed. Shelter-in-place drills involve the children sitting in the hallways away from windows and are used during weather warnings.

No one is permitted to enter or exit the building during these drills. During drills, all teachers have a grab and go backpack with supplies and the office staff will carry all emergency contact numbers, medications, and evacuation bags.

  • True Emergencies

In the event of a true emergency, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the building. Parents will be notified as soon as possible of the situation and given instructions. If the children need to evacuate the building and are unable to return, we will seek shelter in either the Severna Park Community Center or Woods Care and Counseling Center, both within short walking distance and on our campus. Once children are safe, we will contact parents for immediate pickup.
